John S. Early, M.D. elected Texas Orthopedic Association President

Orthopaedic surgeon John S. Early, M.D. was elected as the 2009-2010 President of the Texas Orthopaedic Association during its 73rd Annual Meeting held in Austin. Dr. Early also serves as the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society delegate to the American Medical Association. Dr. Early also is the newly elected chairman board of managers, for Texas Institute for Surgery. "It's a privilege to be elected as President of the Texas Orthopaedic Association," said Dr. Early. "I look forward to the opportunity to serve my colleagues and orthopaedic profession, as well as help enhance the musculoskeletal care of our patients."

After earning a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Princeton University, Dr. Early obtained his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He completed his surgical internship at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA before returning to Parkland Memorial Hospital and UTSW for his residency in orthopaedic surgery. He then completed a fellowship in complex foot and ankle reconstruction with Sigvard T. Hansen, M.D. in Seattle, WA before returning to Dallas to become a part of the orthopaedic faculty and practice at UTSW and Parkland Hospital. From 1994 to 2004, he was head of the foot and ankle division for the Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery and held the R. Wofford Cain Distinguished Chair in Bone and Joint Disease Research.

Internationally known for his expertise in the care of conditions and abnormalities of the foot and ankle, Dr. Early is a board certified Orthopaedic surgeon and holds the title of Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Southwestern Medical Center and consulting physician at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital. He also serves as a reviewer for scientific articles and internationally respected orthopaedic journals such as the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, Foot and Ankle International, and the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. He has won several Teaching Excellence and Outstanding Faculty Awards.

Dr. Early has published numerous articles and book chapters on issues relating to foot and ankle care and serves as co-director of a well regarded foot and ankle fellowship. He has been honored by his peers as one of D Magazine's 2008 and 2009 "Best Doctors" and Texas Monthly's "Super Docs." Dr. Early is currently in private practice at Texas Orthopaedic Associates, L.L.P. with offices in Dallas and Plano.
