Congressman Joe Barton tours TIS

On August 31, 2005, Congressman Joe Barton, Chairman of the House Energy & Commerce Committee, paid a visit to Texas Institute for Surgery at PHD. Mr. Barton was informed of the very positive relationship between TIS and Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. Drs. John Gill and James Montgomery discussed the physicians’ pleasure with the efficiency and technology in this new facility. Mr. Barton expressed his desire to see these types of facilities treat all patients and not be selective about the type of payor. Ms. Hay discussed TIS’ volumes of Medicare, Medicaid and charity patients that have been seen here since opening.

TIS appreciates the time Mr. Barton spent to come see a high quality surgical hospital in action.

Congressman Pete Sessions visits TIS

On August 23, 2005, Congressman Pete Sessions and Ms. Meredith Lindsey visited TIS to see first hand an excellent surgical hospital in operation. Dr. John Gill, an orthopedic surgeon at the facility, joined Mr. Sessions on his tour. He described the positive relationship the physicians have with Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas (PHD)/Texas Health Resources(THR) in producing this facility. He also described the physicians’ pleasure in having control over the clinical operations and decisions which has created a very efficient specialty hospital.

Ms. Debbie Hay, President of TIS and Ms. Molly Hicks, CNO, led Mr. Sessions and Ms. Lindsey on a tour of the facility. Mr. Sessions was shown the observation room where medical personnel can view surgical cases without actually being in the OR suite. They noted the convenience of easy parking access and entry for the patients and the relaxed atmosphere of the facility.

Mr. Mark Merrill, President of Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, discussed THR’s position on physician joint ventures. He pointed out that this is not a single specialty facility and that THR feels non-physician partner is very relevant to the success of all involved. TIS has a transfer/referral agreement with PHD for continuity of care.

TIS appreciates the time Mr. Sessions and Ms. Lindsey spent to see a specialty hospital in action.
